Apartment One
Apartment one is the first floor rental unit of the house. The kitchen and living room are an open floor plan and the space is fairly modern for a "reclaimed" home.
Floors are original pine subfloor throughout. They were covered with layers of tile, linoleum and carpet.
We took down wallpaper over 2, sometimes 3 layers of wall paneling. New sheetrock was added and the molding replaced. Antique doors were found at various salvage shops.
Lighting is a mix of Ikea hacks and antique rewired.

The tiny kitchen alcove was carefully planned so it's appealing enough to be part of the living room.
Cabinets are hand painted with an antiqued glaze effect.
The counter depth ConServ refrigerator is not only energy efficient but also space efficient. The "skinny" fridge is tall enough to make up for it's lack of depth.
The dishwasher, stove and microwave/ventilation fan are full sized and there is sufficient cabinet space as well.
Concrete countertop and backsplash.

The one bedroom in this apartment is long and narrow with windows on opposite ends of the room.
It sits at the back of the house where no one will be disturbed by walk-through traffic.
The "mudroom" that sits off this bedroom can be used as extra storage or an office.
From the mudroom, you can enter the basement or backyard, but there is also access without going through the apartment.

The Victorian inspired bathroom in this otherwise modern apartment was made up from 90% salvaged materials.
The sink is a marble top that sits on an antique Singer sewing machine base.
The 1800's clawfoot tub has a modern shower set up.
Black slate tiles.
And ya gotta love that door surround!

Apartment Two
The living room is newly sheetrocked, as is the entire house, but we kept the original 1920 window trim intact in here and in the rear bedroom (That's the green room through the doorway.)
The funky vintage chandelier was purchased during an Albany architectural salvage trip. All the way to Albany and back and the fixture was pretty much the only thing we ended up with, apart from a speeding ticket. You better love that fixture!!

The Mexican kitchen was inspired by the "find" of ceramic "terracotta" floor tiles at a Habitat ReStore.
The original built in upper cabinets stayed up during the entire renovation process. Base cabinets were recycled from Build it Green. The original base cabinets were in the basement waiting to be painted when Sandy hit. The turquoise paint color? "Jamaica Bay".
The thick wooden counter top beats Ikea butcher block any day. And no Mexican kitchen would be complete without the hand painted tile backsplash.
Stainless appliances include GE fridge, Summit 24" stove, GE dishwasher and microwave.

The pink bathroom was what sold us on this house. Sadly the room was in such bad shape due to plumbing leaks that it had to be gutted. We were determined to save the tub and toilet (not shown) and keep it pink!
After collecting vintage pink tiles from various sources, we still didn't have enough, so we went with new retro tiles.
The sink vanity was originally a dark brown vintage wash stand that was modified for plumbing fixtures.
The door and sconces came from antique shops.
The mirror is Ikea.
